Gift Registry

Selecting a bridal registry early in the wedding planning cycle can easily be one of your most enjoyable and exciting planning functions.

Bridal registries are a free service available at many of your town’s finer department and speciality stores. It affords you the opportunity of pre-planning your new home furnishings and guarantees that you’ll be receiving truly welcomed gifts from your friends and relatives.

You should select your bridal registry as soon after you become engaged as possible. It will function as a helpful guide for selecting gifts for your engagement parties and, of course, the wedding. The correct etiquette for informing your guests about your selected bridal registry is to request your bridesmaids, mothers and relatives to spread the word.

Crowning Glory

Some wedding hair tips to make sure your hair looks great on your wedding day.

Don’t leave it until last minute! Six months before the wedding day speak to a hairdresser to ensure you have enough time to get your hair in the best condition, and discuss styles, colours and accessories that would most suit you.

Keep a scrapbook of any pictures from magazines that you like. Pictures are better than words!

One month before, have a trial run to finalize with your hairdresser the style you have decided upon and accesories you will use.

It’s best not to wash your hair on the day, as just-washed hair can be hard to manage into an up-do style. Just wash your hair the night before.

Make sure you have your appointment booked for the day, giving yourself plenty of time to relax and enjoy the pampering experience.

Cake traditions

The rich fruit cake that we now regard as a traditional wedding cake has evolved over many centuries. Originally a lighter fruited cake, the bride cake, was baked for the bride’s engagement and what is currently known as the wedding cake used to be known as the groom’s cake. The groom would give this cake to his guests and by sharing the cake with them, was also asking them to share his hopes for prosperity and good luck. The first record of ornate sugar work on a cake was by an Italian confectioner in the early 1700s.

The initial marking of the cake by the bride and groom stems from an ancient Greek custom where a couple shared a sesame seed cake to ensure theirs would be a fruitful marriage.

No-one is really sure where the tradition of keeping the top tier of a wedding cake, to use as a christening cake began.  If you do…..let me know

To dance or not to dance….

The most important thing you should think of when choosing your wedding song is “What does the song mean to us?”

Doing something completely different for a first dance – to surprise your guests – is becoming increasingly common. Clips appear all the time on YouTube featuring couples who have invested time and dance lessons into creating very funny routines.

The key to doing something adventurous is not to tackle it unless you are prepared to put in the time to make it good. Have a chat with Louisa at www.bodyinmotiondance.com for some ideas

What’s the problem with shoes?

A recent survey by The Wedding Guide tells us that over 75% of Brides-to-be attending wedding fayres are still looking for their shoes! Along with bridesmaids dresses, accessories and flowers, shoes are  proving to be the hardest thing to make a decision about.

Is it finding that combination of glamour and comfort that is proving so difficult?
